Willingness to cooperate The Association of Portuguese Speaking Energy Regulatory Entities (RELOP) was established in May 2008 on the occasion of the Conference on “Regulation of Energy of Portuguese Speaking Countries”. It was formalized under Portuguese law in 2018. Energy and regulation have undergone a continuous transformation, in particular as regards market opening as well as operational efficiency and rationality. This an evolutionary scenario propelled the entities that share a common heritage - the Portuguese language - to come together in order to create a platform to facilitate and foster the sharing of experiences. The primary interest of such a union arises from the intention to promote cooperation between entities that have regulatory responsibilities in the energy sector in Portuguese-speaking countries, particularly in the areas of electricity, natural gas, oil and its by-products and biofuels. Sharing experiences RELOP is an international association focused on promoting professional training and exchange of knowledge between its members’ specialists and professionals. Promoting cooperation as regards research and developments within the field of economic regulation of the energy sector, RELOP organizes an annual conference, which gathers all of its members as well as external experts, thus allowing a discussion of the main developments in the sector. The activities developed by RELOP promote common studies through the exchange of knowledge and the latest developments. In this sense, various capacity-building actions and studies are carried out, allowing access to regional as well as international realities.
